Mad Church Disease book review

As a pastor's kid I could relate to several stories in the book. I didn't get to see a lot of stuff as my parents "protected" me as well. The intentions were well-meaning, but as a pastor they are coming in handy. I am currently a pastor and I know several ministers that I will recommend this book too. We take so many of these insights for granted. Honestly, it is difficult to admit we have problems. Pastors aren't supposed to be jacked up. We are supposed to be all put together and perfect and ready to minister at the drop of a hat. I wish it were that easy. Where does a pastor go when they get hurt, betrayed or treated unfailrly? You certainly don't tell the church? Most pastors shove it under the rug and see it manifest itself in the way we treat others. I was personally refreshed at the mention of 1 Corinthians 13:7. Whatever happened to the days of believing the best in people? In my life I have asked myself the hard questions when it comes to my emotional, spiritual, physical and relational health as the book so specifically guides us to do. As a pastor, I need answers. This book provides not only great resources and personal examples of how to accomplish these tough tasks, but you can see into a window of Anne's heart as she humbly approaches a topic that is one of the most overlooked topics that pastors face. We know it exists, but few are willing to make the changes. If you are a leader in the church, I would definitely recommend that you read this book and put it into practice in your life immediately. All of us can benefit from it's wisdom.
