Keeping me up at night Part 2
Tuesday, November 11, 2008
The second thing keeping me up at night is this question: "What can we do better"? This is speaking for us as a church. I read this quote from a book and it says "experience doesn't make you better, only evaluated experience makes you better". It made me stop and look at what we are doing as a church. We are seeing good things. We have really been blessed. That doesn't mean we can stop forward thinking. That doesn't mean we have arrived. That doesn't mean we stop cultivating creativity. I know in my own life I can be a better leader, husband, encourager or you name it. I am always trying to do things better than before. I think too often once something is successful we just keep it going. It doesn't matter if it is flourishing or not. One great thing I learned is to have a stop doing list. Too many times we have a to do list or a start list, but never a finish list or stop doing list. We start ministries in our churches and if they are going ok or good we think, that's ok. Jim Collins says "Good is the enemy of Great". I love it! It's so true. I want to do great things through Christ. Jesus did something great. He made a great sacrifice, not just a status quo sacrifice. We can do the same. What can we do better?
